Prescription Drug Abuse

Prescription Drug Abuse and 10 Panel Test

As of 2010 it was reported that approximately 16 million Americans were using a prescription drug as part of a non-medical regimen for at least one year. This has led to a corresponding increase in ER visits due to accidental overdoses, as well as admissions to drug treatment programs for drug addictions.

We all know that prescription drugs are intended to be taken under a doctor’s direction. Unfortunately, when used improperly, they can be very dangerous and even deadly. The truth is that the abuse of prescription drugs is no safer than the abuse of  illicit drugs.

Testing for Prescription Drug Use

amphetamines_drug_testThe 10-panel test is the best solution for detecting prescription drug use that has not been prescribed from a medical practitioner. A 10-panel drug screen is a test that measures the presence, if any, of an illicit substance in the body — most commonly through urine testing.

Who Uses A 10-Panel Urinalysis?

Employers, court systems, law enforcement agencies and schools periodically test individuals within their institution under their watch and often use the 10-panel drug tests.

Workplace and law enforcement agencies benefit the greatest from testing for drugs. Drug tests are crucial when used to determine if an employee was under the influence of drugs at the time of a workplace accident or injury. Employers may also use this test to screen potential employees for drug use to eliminate future accidents, increase workflow and improve productivity. Law enforcement officials and court systems often require a 10-panel drug test to monitor offenders who are on probation or enrolled in work release programs. If a positive test result occurs, an offender may be put in jail on a probation violation. Court programs involving child custody issues also utilize the 10-panel urinalysis screen.
